A new recall on certain Jindi cheese products has been released. These products are mainly sold at independent retailers in New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria.
The recall came into effect because certain forms of Jindi cheese were found to include Listeria, a dangerous contaminant. It is important to know what has been recalled and what the problem actually is. Here are details on the recall.
Foods Being Recalled
The foods being recalled are all cheese based and they came from the Jindi Cheese Pty Ltd. These products are as follows:
- Brie in 1 kg size
- Camembert in 1 kg size
- Food Service Brie in 1 kg size
- Wattle Valley Brand Brie and Camembert in 1 kg size
These brand cheeses are found in small portions and packaged for sale to consumers. All of the cheeses are branded either Jindi or Wattle Valley. The best before date on the cheeses would be 12 December 2012.
The Problem
It was noticed that the cheeses contain Listeria. This contaminate can affect anyone, especially babies, children, the elderly, and pregnant women. People with a compromised immune system due to such illnesses as AIDS and Cancer could be susceptible to the issue as well. Generally, the symptoms of listeria poisoning appear very much like influenza according to WebMD.com. These symptoms include: headache, loss of balance, fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhoea.
Because of this food recall, you will need to check your cheese drawer. If you have any of these products, you need to return them to the manufacturer immediately. If you do, you will receive a refund. Whatever you do, do not consume the cheese. Do not throw it away either.
