Garlic Bread Products Recalled Due to Safety Concerns

George Weston Foods has issued a recall on a number of their garlic bread products following the identification of small pieces of plastic in a margarine blender operated by their supplier GrainCorp. The risk of physical contamination was identified on January 11 and resulted in a recall of a wide range of products considered at risk.

In a statement issued on the Company’s website, 11 products effected by the recall are identified:

• Woolworths Homebrand Garlic Bread 450g- Product sold Nationally
• FoodWorks Best Buy Twin Pack Garlic Bread 450g
• Foodland Garlic Bread Twin Pack 450g – Product sold in SA only
• IGA Bakers Oven Garlic Bread Minis 4 Pack- Product sold Nationally
• IGA Bakers Oven Twin Pack Garlic Bread - Product sold Nationally
• Australian Garlic Bread 11” Catering Single Garlic Bread – Product sold Nationally
• Australian Garlic Bread Garlic Bread for One x12 – Product sold Nationally
• Australian Garlic Bread Baguette with Garlic x12 – Product sold Nationally
• Australian Garlic Bread 9” Herb Bread – Product sold Nationally
• Australian Garlic Bread Catering 9” Garlic Bread – Product sold Nationally

These products have been removed from the shelves of major national retailers including Woolworths, Aldi, Foodworks and IGA, and consumers are urged to discontinue the use of these products and return them to their place of purchase for a full refund.

Both Pizza Hut and Domino’s, who are supplied garlic bread products by George Weston Foods, have removed these items from their menus until further notice. In a statement, Domino’s said they have not received any reports of customers being affected by the contaminated food.

What should I do if affected?

Consumers affected by this recall should not eat any of the identified products, and have the option to dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
